The Federal Government of Nigeria has dismissed recent remarks by U.S. President, Donald Trump alleging large-scale killings of Christians in the country and calling for Nigeria’s designation as a “Country of Particular Concern.”

In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, the government described the claims as inaccurate and unreflective of the realities in Nigeria.

“While Nigeria appreciates global concern for human rights and religious freedom, these claims do not reflect the situation on the ground. Nigerians of all faiths have long lived, worked, and worshipped together peacefully,” the statement read.

The ministry reaffirmed that under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigerian government remains steadfast in its commitment to combating terrorism, promoting interfaith harmony, and protecting the lives and rights of all citizens.

It further noted that Nigeria will continue to engage constructively with the Government of the United States to foster mutual understanding regarding regional security dynamics and ongoing peace efforts across the country.
