A new chapter appears to have opened in grassroots football development in Ondo State following the successful conclusion of the 2026 Moyero International Scouting Programme, which produced eight young footballers who have secured direct professional contracts with clubs in Europe.

The achievement has been described by stakeholders as a landmark moment for youth football development in the state and a clear demonstration of how structured grassroots investment can transform the lives and careers of talented young players.

The scouting programme, organised by Moyero FC, has continued to gain national recognition as one of the country’s emerging platforms for identifying, nurturing and exposing football talents to international opportunities.

At the heart of the initiative is the President of Moyero FC, Mr. Ebenezer Olanrewaju Moyero, whose vision has evolved beyond managing a football club into creating a sustainable pathway for young footballers to access professional opportunities both within and outside Nigeria.

The latest edition of the programme delivered what organisers described as its biggest breakthrough yet, with eight players earning direct contracts in Europe following a series of scouting exercises and evaluations.

Significantly, two of the successful players are members of the Sunshine Stars Under-19 team, a development that has further underscored the growing influence of the programme across different levels of football development in Nigeria.

The accomplishment has been hailed as a new dawn for Ondo State football and a testament to the effectiveness of organised scouting structures capable of connecting local talents to the global football market.

The programme, which operates under the theme, “Building a National Gateway for Grassroots Football Opportunities,” has steadily expanded beyond Ondo State to attract participants from various parts of the country.

Information released by the organisers indicates that teams now travel from several states and cities across Nigeria, including Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt and other football centres, to participate in the scouting exercise.

This national reach has transformed the initiative from a regional football project into a structured platform for discovering and promoting talents from across the federation.

A key figure in the programme’s expansion is Mr. Oluwatope Ayokunle, Chief Executive Officer of TuBaba Scouting Network, who serves as the National Coordinator and Consultant of the scouting programme.

Speaking with Nigerian Monitor, Ayokunle expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded by the initiative and commended the leadership of the Moyero International Scouting Programme for providing the platform and support needed to build a credible football development structure.

According to him, the programme has continued to provide direction, organisation and consistency in the scouting process while ensuring that talented players receive genuine opportunities to advance their careers.

Football stakeholders have noted that one of the distinguishing features of the Moyero International Scouting Programme is its emphasis on continuity rather than one-off talent hunts.

The organisers described the initiative as a platform for continuous opportunities, with a structured scouting calendar designed to provide regular exposure for young footballers seeking professional careers.

The success of the recently concluded edition has already generated excitement ahead of the next programme, which organisers confirmed is currently being prepared.

With another edition on the horizon, players, coaches and football academies across Nigeria have been encouraged to remain ready for the next phase of opportunities.

Industry observers say the programme is helping to reposition Ondo State as an emerging hub for football talent development, while providing a bridge between grassroots football and the international professional game.

For many participants, the signing of eight players to European clubs represents more than a football achievement; it is evidence that well-organised grassroots initiatives can create life-changing opportunities for young Nigerians.

As preparations begin for the next scouting exercise, Moyero FC’s growing reputation continues to reinforce its vision of becoming not just a football club, but a gateway through which talented players can be identified, developed and launched onto the global stage.
