Nine surveyors abducted at a site in Ilu-Abo, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, have regained their freedom after a ransom of N20 million was paid.

Their release was confirmed on Wednesday by Pastor Ajibade Owolanke, brother to the Ejemikin of Akure, High Chief Oluwole Omotayo.

According to Owolanke, the victims were set free on Tuesday night and have since returned to Akure, the state capital.

Their release came amid mounting public outrage over the rising cases of kidnapping in the state.

Earlier on Tuesday, concerned residents, led mostly by women, staged a mass protest in Akure, demanding urgent action from the government.

The demonstrators marched to the Governor’s Office in Alagbaka, carrying placards with various inscriptions and chanting solidarity songs to express their frustration over the worsening security situation.

The abduction of the surveyors had heightened fears about the growing insecurity in Ondo State, with many calling for stronger measures to combat the menace.

While the details of their captivity remain unclear, their safe return has brought relief to their families and the local community.
