The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the assumption of duty of a new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ondo State, with the appointment of Mutiu Olaleke Agboke.
The development was disclosed in a press release issued by the INEC Ondo State headquarters in Akure on Monday, April 20, 2026, confirming that Dr Agboke officially resumed duties the same day.
According to the statement, Dr Agboke is a seasoned legal scholar and election management expert from Abeokuta, Ogun State, who was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006.
He previously served as a member of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) between 2012 and 2016, where he gained experience in electoral administration at the state level.
The Commission noted that the new REC also brings extensive field experience, having served in the same capacity in Ondo, Oyo, and Osun states, where he played supervisory roles during the 2019 and 2023 general elections.
INEC described him as a professional known for integrity, transparency, and a strong commitment to due process in electoral management.
The Commission expressed confidence in his ability to strengthen electoral processes in Ondo State, particularly in delivering credible, free, and fair elections.
The statement, signed by the Administrative Secretary of INEC in Ondo State, Mrs Tadesse Adenike, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to upholding electoral integrity and sustaining public trust in the democratic process.
