Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has inaugurated a visitation panel for the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to strengthening the institution’s growth and efficiency.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on Monday in Akure, the Governor stressed that the panel’s role is to assess the university’s progress, identify challenges, and make recommendations for improvement.
He noted that such assessments, conducted every five years, ensure that the government remains informed about the state of its institutions and can provide the necessary support.

“With a new Vice-Chancellor in place, it is imperative for the government to understand the university’s current position to determine how best to aid its development.
“The members of this panel have been carefully selected, and I am confident that their work will lead to significant advancements that add value to the institution,” Governor Aiyedatiwa stated.
He further urged the panel to work closely with the new Vice-Chancellor to ensure a seamless administration, enabling effective decision-making and strategic planning for the university’s future.
The chairman of the visitation panel, Prof. Gbenga Olumekun, Director of the University Advancement Office at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, assured that the panel would execute its mandate with diligence and impartiality.
He emphasised the panel’s commitment to engaging all stakeholders, conducting a thorough review, and presenting actionable recommendations that will enhance UNIMED’s capacity to fulfil its mission.
Meanwhile, Governor Aiyedatiwa has reaffirmed his administration’s support for the National Population Commission (NPC), underscoring the necessity of accurate demographic data for effective governance and sustainable development.

During a courtesy visit by the NPC’s Ondo State management team, led by the newly appointed Federal Commissioner, Mrs Olukemi Victoria Iyantan, the Governor highlighted the government’s reliance on credible population figures for policy formulation, infrastructure development, and service delivery.
“Governance is about serving the people, and to plan effectively, we need reliable demographic data.
“The work of the National Population Commission is indispensable. As a government, we will support you within available resources to ensure that the data collected is comprehensive and accurate,” he noted.
Governor Aiyedatiwa urged the NPC to ensure a meticulous data collection process, as it would form the foundation for key developmental strategies in the state.
In her response, Mrs Iyantan expressed gratitude for the Governor’s support and reiterated the commission’s commitment to generating precise population data that will guide decision-making.

She highlighted the alignment between President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Our Ease Agenda, both of which focus on improving the lives of citizens and fostering sustainable development in Ondo State.
