Political leaders from Enugu State on Tuesday pledged support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, citing the impact of his administration’s policies and interventions in the state and across the country.
The endorsement was made during a high-level meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where a delegation led by the Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, met with the President.
The delegation, which said it represented over seven million people of the state, included prominent political figures and top government officials such as Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh; Chief of Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke; former Senate President, Ken Nnamani; and former governors of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
Also present were former Governor of old Anambra State, Jim Nwobodo, alongside members of the National Assembly, former ministers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, academics and other stakeholders.
Speaking during the meeting, President Tinubu expressed appreciation for the show of support, noting that visible improvements in infrastructure, education, healthcare and security across states reflect the gains of his administration’s economic reforms.
He commended state governors for effectively utilising resources released to sub-national governments, saying the outcomes were evident in ongoing development efforts.
“The results you are outlining—security, infrastructure, education and healthcare—are not abstract. They are evidence that reform is working and that Nigeria is moving forward,” the President said.
Tinubu assured the delegation of continued collaboration between the federal and state governments, particularly in critical sectors such as rail infrastructure, power and broader economic development.
He also noted that recent political realignments across the country in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) were driven largely by the outcomes of these reforms and improved intergovernmental cooperation.
The President praised Governor Mbah’s leadership, particularly his efforts in tackling insecurity and improving infrastructure and social services in the state.
Responding, Governor Mbah described the visit as symbolic of a shared commitment to national progress and economic transformation, expressing gratitude for federal support and engagement with Enugu State.
“This visit represents the collective voice of over seven million people of Enugu State. We have come to express our appreciation and to affirm our support for your leadership and vision for Nigeria,” he said.
Mbah noted that federal interventions and projects initiated during the President’s visit to Enugu in January 2025 had significantly boosted socio-economic development in the state.
He added that the President’s decision to invest in Enugu despite political differences at the time demonstrated statesmanship and a commitment to national unity.
Also speaking, former Senate President Ken Nnamani said the delegation’s visit was to formally thank the President for his support for Enugu State and the South-East region, particularly in infrastructure development.
“We have come to say thank you, Mr President. The achievements recorded in Enugu State have been made possible with your support, and we are confident that you will enjoy the backing of our people,” Nnamani said.
The delegation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting President Tinubu in the 2027 elections, expressing confidence in his leadership and the direction of the country under his administration.
