Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, has expanded its academic offerings following the approval of four new programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The newly approved programmes are Software Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Public Health, and M.Phil/Ph.D Architecture. The programmes are scheduled to commence in October 2026.
The approval followed a comprehensive resource verification exercise conducted by a team of experts from the NUC, who assessed the university’s human resources, physical infrastructure, laboratories, workshops, studios and other academic facilities required for the proposed programmes.
In a letter conveying the approval to the university, the commission congratulated the institution on the successful outcome of the verification exercise and urged it to sustain the provision of adequate human and material resources for the continued growth of the programmes.
Members of the NUC verification team reportedly commended the university’s infrastructural development, modern facilities and conducive learning environment during their visit.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor of Elizade University, Professor Philip Oguntunde, expressed appreciation to the NUC for what he described as a thorough and objective assessment process.
According to him, the approval further validates the university’s commitment to academic excellence and its vision of producing globally competitive graduates equipped with the knowledge, skills and entrepreneurial mindset required in a rapidly changing world.
“The newly approved programmes are carefully designed to respond to emerging national and global demands in technology, healthcare and the built environment,” he said.
Professor Oguntunde noted that the introduction of Software Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering aligns with the institution’s determination to remain at the forefront of technological innovation and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
He added that the Public Health programme would help produce professionals capable of addressing contemporary health challenges and contributing to community well-being.
Also speaking, the Registrar of the university, Mr. Omololu Adegbenro, described the approval as a reflection of Elizade University’s growing reputation as an emerging centre of excellence in teaching, research, innovation and professional development.
He said the development would further strengthen the institution’s capacity to contribute to national development through cutting-edge research, technological innovation and the production of skilled manpower across critical sectors of the economy.
Adegbenro added that the approval of the M.Phil and Ph.D Architecture programmes represents a significant boost for advanced research and scholarship in the discipline and reinforces the university’s commitment to expanding postgraduate education.
Admissions into the newly approved programmes, as well as other undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered by the university, have commenced.
