Coalition warns Federal, State Govts over hardship, threatens protest on Oct 1

The Coalition for Concerned Nigeria Citizens in Osun State has warned the federal and state governments to urgently address the economic hardship faced by Nigerians, particularly the astronomical increase in fuel prices.

The group, led by Mr. Ajala Adetunji David, gave the governments an ultimatum until October 1 to address the issues or face a massive protest.

At a press conference tagged “#ENDBADGOVERNANCE, STATE OF NATION,” the coalition listed demands including the implementation of a minimum wage, distribution of palliatives, payment of outstanding salaries and arrears, and reduction of fuel prices.

The group criticised the government’s response to the economic crisis, citing the removal of taxes on food items as insufficient.

They also condemned the federal government’s purchase of a private aircraft for the presidency, calling it an extravagant expense that disregards the suffering of the masses.

The coalition warned that their patience is not infinite and that they will not be ignored. They called on citizens to join them in demanding good governance from the government at all levels.

Additionally, the group condemned the arrest and detention of some of their leaders, including Michael Lenin and Mosiu Sodiq, and demanded their release.

They also expressed skepticism about the Osun state government’s promises to address the demands, citing the lack of tangible steps taken so far.
