The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the lower court’s judgment reinstating Philip Shaibu as the Deputy Governor of Edo State.
The appellate court dismissed the appeal by the Edo State House of Assembly seeking to uphold Shaibu’s impeachment.
Shaibu was impeached on April 8, 2024, following a report by a seven-man committee investigating allegations of misconduct against him.
However, a Federal High Court in Abuja voided the impeachment on July 17, ordering Shaibu’s immediate reinstatement.
Justice James Omotosho held that the allegations against Shaibu were untenable in law and constituted gross misconduct.
The court also ordered the Inspector-General of Police to provide Shaibu with necessary security to enable him to resume office and perform his duties until the end of his tenure.
The Court of Appeal’s decision affirms Shaibu’s reinstatement, dismissing the appeal by the Edo State House of Assembly.
