Ondo State Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has declared that his administration is recording visible progress in health, education, agriculture, infrastructure and security, assuring residents of even greater strides in the coming months.
Speaking at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Arcade, Akure, during Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary on Wednesday, the Governor said the state’s transformation was anchored on his “OUR EASE” policy framework, with multiple projects simultaneously under way.
He highlighted the dualisation of the Akure–Idanre, Akungba–Ikare and Okitipupa–Igbokoda roads, rehabilitation of five kilometres of roads in each of the 18 local government areas, and the construction of jetties and walkways in riverine communities.
“Roads are not just pathways, they are lifelines that will boost commerce, agriculture, reduce travel stress and encourage economic activities and the daily life of our people,” Aiyedatiwa said.
In healthcare, the Governor noted the expansion of the contributory health scheme, completion of a pharma-grade warehouse to guarantee drug supply, renovation of hospitals and fresh recruitment of medical personnel.
He pledged that all health facilities in the state would be upgraded to global standards.
On education, he cited classroom rehabilitation, provision of instructional materials, bursaries and scholarships, digital learning opportunities and the continued operation of free shuttle buses and boats for pupils.
In the agricultural sector, the government has secured 26,000 hectares of land and earmarked ₦7.5 billion for development, with the aim of boosting food security and job creation.
Security, he added, was being strengthened with the provision of 75 high-grade Hilux vehicles fitted with modern equipment to enable security agencies to respond swiftly to threats.
“In the coming months, you will see more progress. Ondo State is moving forward, Nigeria is moving forward; and nothing is beyond our reach,” the Governor pledged.
Earlier, Secretary to the State Government, Dr Taiwo Fasoranti, described the anniversary as a moment to reflect on the sacrifices of Nigeria’s forebears while acknowledging what he called an “unprecedented socio-economic revival” in Ondo State.
He praised Aiyedatiwa’s transparency and accountability as critical drivers of reform.
The ceremony featured a colourful parade by the police, schools, and civic groups, with dignitaries including the Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami; Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji; Chief Judge of the state, Justice A.O. Odusola; the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye; religious leaders, technocrats and politicians in attendance.
