The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the Ondo State election, Alfred Agboola Ajayi, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of compromising the electoral process.
Speaking after casting his vote at Apoi Ward 11, Unit 004, RCM Idumado Quarters Kiribo in Ese-Odo Local Government Area, Ajayi expressed disappointment in the conduct of the election, citing technical failures and unchecked vote-buying.
Ajayi criticised INEC for its inability to conduct a smooth election in a single state, pointing out that the BVAS system malfunctioned during his accreditation, taking approximately 10 minutes to capture him.
He alleged that these technical issues were deliberate acts orchestrated by INEC and the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola.
“It’s sad that INEC cannot conduct an election well in just one state. The BVAS aren’t working properly, and it seems deliberate. We’ve raised concerns about the REC, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, and her inability to be impartial,” Ajayi said.
The PDP candidate also lamented the prevalence of vote-buying, alleging massive financial inducements by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“People are complaining across the state about vote-buying. It is a very shameful exercise,” he added.
Despite his grievances, Ajayi called on residents of Ondo State to remain resolute and exercise their right to vote without fear.
He expressed confidence in his party’s chances of victory, urging voters to reject any attempt to undermine the democratic process.
“We must not give in to the shenanigans of the APC and INEC. We will surely overcome,” Ajayi concluded.
