Yahaya Bello: The White Lion and his Unmatched Legacy
As Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello concludes his tenure, his legacy stands tall as a testament to visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people of Kogi State. From his inauguration on January 27, 2016, to his re-election in 2019, Governor Bello has left an indelible mark on every facet of the state’s socio-economic landscape. His tenure has been characterized by bold initiatives, innovative policies, and transformative projects aimed at propelling Kogi State to unprecedented heights of development and prosperity.
By surpassing UNESCO’s benchmark for budgetary allocation to education with 30% instead of 26% in 2022, fully funding 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination fee for 15,033 students in public schools across the state and enactment of a landmark education law and the attainment of full accreditation for courses offered in state-owned tertiary institutions, Governor Bello has ensured that no child is denied access to quality education due to financial constraints. With the least number of out-of-school children among the 19 states in northern Nigeria, establishment of the Confluence University of Science and Technology, (CUSTECH) and a well articulated education law which became effective in 2020, among numerous strides in the education sector, his commitment to education has signalled a new era of excellence and opportunity for the youth of Kogi State.
