A call has gone to the Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, and other members of the legislative body to adhere to the provisions of the Nigerian constitution and pronounce the Deputy Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa as Acting Governor.
This call to the Assembly leadership and members, was made on Monday by Mr Moyosola Niran Oladunni.
Oladunni, who made this call in a statement released to journalists, reminded the lawmakers that the deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa is currently on a joint 4-year mandate with the ailing Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
In the statement, Assembly members were urged to respectfully and honourably note that the deputy governor was not selected, but elected alongside the governor.
Oladunni, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, was a one time governorship aspirant, and Vice Chairman, Ala Resort.
He noted that the embarrassment brought on the people of the state, through the activities of the Assembly members over the recent threat of impeachment and the political hullabaloo of not declaring the deputy as Acting Governor was uncalled for.
“The Assembly members should have looked beyond sentiment but consider the huge volume of suffering that the people of the state are passing through as a result of this.
“For the fact that the economic policy of the federal government is affecting the people negatively, the absence of the governor is no doubt adding to it and giving room for corruption in the cabinet,” he stated.
It would be recalled that the state has been in the news negatively for months over who acts on behalf of Governor Akeredolu, who is currently undergoing treatment over his ill health.
Oladunni stressed further that, the Assembly members should have looked for means by which all aggrieved parties could be pacified, rather than the mess they put the state in.
He, therefore, appreciated the elders in the state for rising up to the occasion, and as well made concrete efforts which culminated in the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the matter.
