Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Sunday evening met with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara at the governor’s private residence in Port Harcourt, alongside members of the state House of Assembly and the 23 local government chairmen.
The meeting is part of renewed political reconciliation efforts following the prolonged rift between Wike and his successor, with discussions reportedly focusing on political alignment and possible realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike led a delegation that included the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and other political stakeholders associated with the Rainbow Coalition.
The delegation also reportedly included Kingsley Chinda, identified in the account as the APC governorship candidate in Rivers State.
Speaking on the outcome of the meeting, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the FCT minister on Public Communications and Social Media, said the discussions centred on political alignment to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and consolidate candidates under the coalition’s banner in 2027.
The meeting comes amid efforts to resolve the political crisis that strained relations between the executive and legislative arms of the Rivers State Government and disrupted governance in the state.
The dispute between Wike, a former Rivers governor, and Fubara has been a major feature of the state’s political landscape since the latter assumed office in 2023.
Although reconciliation talks have been held between the rival camps, questions remain over the political arrangement that would accommodate Fubara’s loyalists within the emerging coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
