The Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) has directed public servants across the Federal, State and Local Government services to commence a three-day warning strike from midnight on Friday, October 2, 2026, following what it described as the failure of the Federal Government to respond to its demands.

The council, in a notice signed by its National Secretary, Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga, directed its national officers, state chairmen and secretaries to immediately mobilise workers for the industrial action, which is scheduled to run until Sunday, October 4.

The development follows the council’s earlier position that the warning strike would commence if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu failed to address the issues contained in a letter submitted to his office on September 21, 2026.

In the notice, the JNPSNC said the decision to proceed with the strike had become necessary following the absence of what it considered an adequate response to the issues raised by organised public servants.

The council called on workers in the Federal, State and Local Government services to participate in the action, stressing that the issues affecting public servants had wider implications for workers, their dependants and vulnerable Nigerians.

“An injury to one is an injury to all,” the council said, urging workers to close ranks and participate in the three-day warning strike.

The union leadership also cited worsening economic and social pressures facing workers, saying the current hardship had become increasingly difficult for many Nigerians to endure.

It described the economic and mental pressures being experienced by workers as “unbearable and frustrating”, while calling for immediate mobilisation ahead of the commencement of the industrial action.

The council therefore instructed its structures nationwide to disseminate the strike notice and ensure that workers were adequately informed about the action.
