Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66.

The actor’s family announced his death on Sunday, in a statement shared on social media.

The statement said the family accepted the death as the will of Almighty Allah while announcing the passing of the veteran actor.

“With total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, the family of Alhaji Taiwo Hassan Ogogo announces his passing today, 23rd August, 2026,” the statement said.

The family prayed to Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.

It also announced that Hassan would be buried according to Islamic rites on Monday, with the funeral scheduled to take place at the Pavilion in Ilaro, Ogun State.

The death of the actor came only days after his family disclosed that he was battling stage-four cancer and appealed for financial and medical assistance to support his treatment.

Hassan was one of the prominent figures in the Yoruba film industry, having built a career spanning several decades as an actor, filmmaker and director.

Through his performances and contributions to Yoruba-language cinema, he became a familiar face to generations of Nigerian film audiences and established himself as one of the industry’s respected veterans.

His death has triggered an outpouring of grief among colleagues, fans and other stakeholders in the Nigerian entertainment industry, with tributes expected to continue as the industry mourns one of its longstanding figures.
