President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the conduct of the 2026 primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC), across the country as a strong demonstration of internal democracy within the ruling party.

The President stated this on Saturday after participating in the APC presidential primaries at Ikoyi-Obalende Ward L2 in Lagos.

President Tinubu, who arrived at the venue alongside the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, was received by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, and former Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, among other party leaders.

Speaking after casting his vote, the President commended party members for their orderly conduct and commitment to democratic principles.

“This is a demonstration of internal democracy, and it has been going on very well according to plan. This is grassroots politics where every member of the party has the right to participate,” Tinubu said.

“It shows that we have internal democracy and it’s peaceful and well organised.”

The President expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise across the states, praising APC governors and party officials for ensuring a credible process.

“I am very satisfied that governors have done well in their various states, from the ward congresses to local government congresses, delegate accreditation, validation, membership registration and certification of the electoral process,” he stated.

According to him, the exercise further strengthened democratic participation at the grassroots and reflected the party’s commitment to transparent and inclusive internal processes.

President Tinubu emphasised that grassroots participation remained essential to sustainable democratic development and urged party members to continue supporting democratic institutions.

He also commended electoral officials, party leaders and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful and credible exercise nationwide.

The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to democratic governance, political stability and policies aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians.
