New Ondo CP Ohagwu assumes office, promises professional, rights-based policing

Ondo State Police Command has announced the assumption of office of Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, as the 47th Commissioner of Police in the state, following a recent redeployment approved by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command said CP Ohagwu officially took over from former Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, as part of ongoing efforts by the police high command to strengthen internal security and improve policing nationwide.

The statement described the new police commissioner as a seasoned officer with over three decades of experience in crime prevention, intelligence-led policing, operational coordination and public safety management.

According to the command, CP Ohagwu has served in several operational, investigative and administrative capacities across the country and distinguished himself through professionalism, discipline and dedication to duty.

Speaking shortly after assuming office, the new commissioner pledged to consolidate on the existing security architecture in Ondo State while prioritising the protection of lives and property.

He assured residents that the command under his leadership would intensify proactive policing strategies, intelligence gathering, community engagement and inter-agency collaboration aimed at combating crime and criminality across the state.

CP Ohagwu also promised to uphold transparency, accountability, professionalism and respect for human rights in the discharge of police duties.

He stressed that officers and men of the command would be guided by integrity, ethical conduct and quality service delivery in line with global best practices in policing.

The commissioner further pledged to sustain a corruption-free policing system and strengthen public confidence in the police through responsible and people-oriented policing.

He expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for the confidence reposed in him and also commended his predecessor, CP Adebowale Lawal, for his contributions toward maintaining peace and security in Ondo State.

The command appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information capable of aiding crime prevention and enhancing public safety.
