The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken key political steps ahead of the 2027 general elections, purchasing a presidential nomination form for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while endorsing Deputy Governor Olufemi Hamzat as its consensus governorship aspirant.

The decisions were reached at a high-level meeting of the party’s influential Governance Advisory Council (GAC), comprising senior leaders and stakeholders within the Lagos APC.

Confirming the development, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said the party had purchased the presidential nomination form for Tinubu, describing the move as a clear demonstration of confidence in the administration’s policies and the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, GAC leader, Tajudeen Olusi, said the gathering, which had over 20 top party figures in attendance, focused extensively on strategic preparations for the 2027 elections.

He explained that although the APC constitution provides for open primaries, it also accommodates consensus arrangements aimed at strengthening party unity and cohesion.

Olusi disclosed that the council unanimously adopted Hamzat as its preferred candidate for the governorship race, signalling strong internal backing for the deputy governor’s ambition.

According to him, party stakeholders have also agreed to collectively fund the purchase of Hamzat’s nomination form, with several leaders already pledging personal contributions in support of his candidacy.

Despite the endorsement, Olusi emphasised that the party would still conduct its primaries in line with its constitutional provisions and electoral guidelines.

He noted that the consensus decision was intended to guide the party’s direction and foster unity, rather than supplant the formal nomination process.

The meeting featured several prominent APC leaders, including Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Musiliu Obanikoro, Ganiyu Solomon, Tokunbo Abiru, Anthony Adefuye, and James Odunbaku.
