President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a cabinet reshuffle that saw the exit of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.

Their replacements were announced in a memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, who disclosed that the changes take immediate effect.

According to the directive, Edun is to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has been appointed as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State in the ministry.

Similarly, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, pending formal confirmation.

The memo directed Dangiwa to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry, while all transition processes are to be concluded on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Explaining the rationale behind the reshuffle, Akume said the move is aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance, as well as enhancing the delivery of economic outcomes to Nigerians under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians,” the memo stated.

He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers in effecting the changes, in line with Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them well in their future endeavours.

He also assured that the process of cabinet reinvigoration would remain continuous as part of efforts to improve governance and service delivery.
