President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, to take charge of the worsening security situation following recent terrorist attacks in the area.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, the President expressed deep concern over the attacks, describing the reports from Maiduguri as “profoundly upsetting.”
He mourned those who lost their lives, sympathised with the injured, and reaffirmed his administration’s solidarity with the people of Borno State.
Tinubu, however, insisted that the attacks were desperate attempts by insurgents under sustained pressure from Nigerian security forces.
“I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil and spread fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies,” the President said.
He assured Nigerians that the Federal Government would intensify its offensive against all forms of criminality across the country.
“We will continue to intensify our efforts against all criminal elements, wherever they may be,” he stated, while commending the military for repelling coordinated assaults on its positions in the state.
Describing the attacks as “desperate acts of evil-minded groups,” Tinubu expressed confidence that the combined efforts of the military and civilian task forces would ultimately neutralise the threats.
The President also disclosed that he had recently approved additional military equipment and operational support during a high-level security meeting with heads of intelligence and security agencies, noting that implementation was already underway.
As part of immediate response measures, he ordered security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to coordinate operations on ground, while directing emergency response agencies to provide adequate medical care and support for victims.
“There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety. We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them. Nigeria will not succumb to fear,” the President declared.
