Police recover missing seven-year-old girl in Ondo, begin search for parents

Ondo State Police Command has recovered a seven-year-old girl found wandering alone in Odigbo town and has launched an investigation to trace her parents and determine the circumstances surrounding her presence in the area.

The child, who identified herself as Azeez Baliki, was brought to the Odigbo Divisional Police Headquarters on February 7, 2026, by a resident, Adebayo, 44, who reportedly found her roaming along the Orita axis of the town without adult supervision.

According to the police, the girl said she resides at Idi-Ose in Ibadan, Oyo State, and attends Glorious Primary School, Ibadan.

She has since been placed in protective custody while preliminary investigations continue to establish contact with her parents or lawful guardians and ascertain how she ended up in Ondo State.

The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding vulnerable persons, particularly children, and appealed to members of the public with useful information on the identity or whereabouts of the child’s family to report to the nearest police station.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, in a statement on Tuesday, assured that efforts were ongoing to reunite the child with her family and ensure her safety.
