Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected serial rapist and armed robbery suspect, Olamipekun Elegbeleye, in Akure as part of ongoing efforts to curb sexual violence and strengthen public safety across the state.
The suspect was apprehended following intelligence-led operations by operatives of the command under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal.
Police investigations revealed that on November 21, 2025, at about 11:30 a.m., the suspect allegedly lured a female victim onto his TVS motorcycle under the pretence of conveying her to Afunbiowo Housing Estate, Oke Aro.
He was said to have diverted into a nearby bush where he sexually assaulted the victim at gunpoint and robbed her of personal belongings.
Further investigations uncovered that the suspect had allegedly carried out similar attacks on at least four other female victims at the same location, using the same modus operandi of offering transportation before assaulting and dispossessing them of their valuables.
Acting on credible intelligence and technical tracking, police operatives traced and arrested the suspect at his hideout.
Items recovered from him include two SIM cards, two iPhones, a shirt, as well as Opay and Moniepoint ATM cards, all suspected to belong to his victims.
Police also established that the suspect unlawfully transferred money from a victim’s bank account into another account.
According to the police, the suspect confessed to the crimes during interrogation and has since been charged to court, where he was remanded at the Ondo State Correctional Centre, Akure.
Reaffirming the command’s commitment to public safety, CP Adebowale Lawal assured residents of Ondo State that perpetrators of violent and sexual crimes would be relentlessly pursued and brought to justice, urging members of the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information.
