Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved major infrastructure projects totalling 101.036 kilometres of new and rehabilitated roads, in a move aimed at strengthening economic development and easing movement across the state.
The approval was granted during Monday’s State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting in Akure, presided over by the governor.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Ayorinde Abiola Olawoye, said the council endorsed 66.421 kilometres of fresh roads and 34.615 kilometres of rehabilitation works.
He emphasised that the projects would boost commerce, open up communities and support mobility within urban and rural areas.
According to him, major road interventions include the reconstruction of Omotosho–Igbotako–Iju-Odo Road in Okitipupa, College Road – Okoga Junction – Irewole Roundabout in Igbokoda, and rehabilitation of Akure–Ijare Road with a spur into Ikota.
The council also concluded a review of the Ijoka Road dualisation project in Akure, paving the way for resumption of construction.
In the housing and public infrastructure sector, the EXCO approved the construction of a 216-bed hostel at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko to improve accommodation for corps members deployed to the state.
The government will also construct a new two-storey headquarters building for the Ondo State Public Complaints, Financial Crimes and Anti-Corruption Commission.
Other building upgrades include renovation and enhancement of structures belonging to the Hospital Management Board (HMB), Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Ministries of Water Resources, Women Affairs, Energy and Mineral Resources, and Lands and Housing.
Speaking further, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, announced the appointment of three traditional rulers.
They are: Prince Emmanuel Adetutu Ifasole as the Akinuwa of Ipindo in Ondo West Local Government Area; Prince Bamikole Adeyefa as the Elemure of Emure-Ile in Owo Local Government Area; and Prince Akintoye Felix Adeoye as the Oluoke of Okeigbo in Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area.
He added that council also approved the constitution of a Warrant Chiefs Committee for the Olojoda Chieftaincy Stool.
On his part, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Idowu Ajanaku, reaffirmed the administration’s focus on people-centred development, insisting that the approved projects demonstrate the governor’s commitment to delivering visible and impactful results.
“This government is focused on projects that touch lives directly. Governor Aiyedatiwa is determined to deliver visible results through massive infrastructure renewal,” Ajanaku stated.
He assured that strict monitoring mechanisms would be adopted to ensure timely completion and quality delivery across all projects.
