In a firm declaration of intent to deliver on infrastructure development across Ondo State, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa on Wednesday inaugurated the newly completed Oda Road in Akure South Local Government Area, assuring citizens that no project will be abandoned under his administration.
The commissioning ceremony marked a significant milestone, not only as a fulfilment of the governor’s promise upon assuming office in February 2025, but also as part of his broader commitment to sustaining the legacy of his late predecessor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, who initially launched the road dualisation.
Addressing the gathering at the event, Governor Aiyedatiwa described the project’s completion as evidence of “meticulous planning, dedication, and the collective will” of his administration to ensure meaningful development.
He acknowledged the necessity of reviewing and auditing inherited projects such as the Oda Road, as well as the Ijoka Road and the Onyearugbulem/Shagari Flyover in Akure, which he pledged will not be left incomplete.
“There might be delays because they are inherited projects, and we had to first verify financial commitments and ensure prudent spending,” he said, but assured that work on all fronts is progressing.
The governor lauded the efforts of the project’s contractor, Dortnud Construction Company, for its professionalism and patience throughout the auditing and completion process.
He noted that the project’s successful delivery aligns with the capital-focused 2025 Budget of Recovery, designed to stimulate economic growth through strategic infrastructure investment.
Aiyedatiwa highlighted the numerous benefits already being felt due to the new road, including reduced traffic congestion, improved access to public services, and a boost in local economic activity, particularly in real estate and small businesses.
He urged residents to take ownership of the road by maintaining it responsibly and avoiding actions that could damage the infrastructure, such as burning tyres or dumping waste improperly.
“Infrastructure is a shared responsibility. As government builds, citizens must protect,” he stressed.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing, Engr. Olawoye Abiola, provided technical insight into the project, noting that the completed 7.8-kilometre stretch includes a 4-kilometre dual carriageway and a 3.8-kilometre single carriageway.
He praised the governor’s resolve to extend infrastructure upgrades across all 18 local government areas, positioning Oda Road as a shining example of such commitment.
Local government leaders and traditional authorities were also present to celebrate the milestone.
The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi Odundun II, hailed the governor’s leadership and described the completion as a “landmark achievement” reflective of a government attuned to its people’s needs.
The traditional ruler, along with Hon. Oguntodu Olajide Johnson of the Ondo State House of Assembly, praised Aiyedatiwa for honouring his word and responding to longstanding public demand.
The event drew a broad spectrum of dignitaries, including Deputy Governor; Dr. Olayide Adelami, Secretary to the State Government; Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, Chief of Staff; Prince Segun Omojuwa, and Head of Service; Mr. Bayo Philip.
Members of the State Executive Council, the Ondo State House of Assembly, senior government officials, and community leaders also witnessed the occasion.
