One of Nigeria’s veteran gospel music ministers, Rachael Olatoun Soetan, has passed on at the age of 72.

The respected evangelist and gospel singer was reported to have been called to glory in the early hours of Friday after a prolonged illness.

Her death comes barely two weeks after the passing of Taiwo, one of the twins of the Adegbodu brothers, whose demise was earlier announced within the gospel music community.

Nigerian Monitor gathered that Evangelist Soetan died on Friday following a long battle with illness.

She would have marked her 73rd birthday on June 18, 2026.

The late gospel minister had celebrated her 70th birthday on June 18, 2023 with a special seven-hour praise session held at Orita-Mefa Baptist Church in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Popularly known among admirers as Mama Soetan, the late evangelist was widely regarded as a remarkable vessel whose life and ministry left a lasting imprint on the gospel music landscape in Nigeria and beyond.

Through her songs and evangelistic ministrations, she touched countless lives and inspired several generations of gospel musicians across the country.

Among her widely known songs are “Darling Jesus” and “On The Mountain,” which remain favourites among gospel music lovers and worshippers.

News of her death has since triggered an outpouring of tributes from admirers and members of the Christian community who described her as a devoted servant of God whose music ministry brought comfort and spiritual upliftment to many.

While her passing has been described as a painful loss to the Body of Christ, many believers say they take solace in the belief that she has gone to rest with the Lord whom she faithfully served.

Though her voice may now be silent on earth, admirers say the legacy of Evangelist Soetan will continue to resonate through her songs and in the lives of those she inspired through her ministry.
