There was palpable tension in Akure, the Ondo State capital, in the early hours of Saturday following the reported abduction of health workers from a government-owned medical facility in the Oke Ijebu area of the city.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the incident occurred at about 2:00 a.m., when suspected kidnappers stormed a Government Health Centre located near Mega School in Oke Ijebu area and forcefully took away all staff on duty.
A patient at the facility, who spoke with journalists, said the assailants arrived in a large bus and swiftly overpowered the workers before whisking them away.
According to the source, no fewer than six health personnel, including some interns, were abducted during the operation.
“The men came in a bus and entered the premises. They took all the staff on duty and bundled them into the vehicle before driving off,” the eyewitness recounted.
The attackers reportedly fled the scene with the victims to an unknown destination, leaving behind frightened patients and residents.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incident or confirm details of the abduction.
The development has thrown the community into fear and uncertainty, with residents calling for urgent intervention by security operatives to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and to prevent further attacks.
The incident underscores growing concerns over security in parts of Ondo State, particularly in Akure, where residents have increasingly expressed anxiety over criminal activities targeting vulnerable locations.
