Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State have disrupted a suspected cult gathering in Akungba Akoko, arresting five persons alleged to be members of the notorious Eiye Confraternity.

The operation, carried out by the Command’s Special Anti-Cultism Squad, followed credible intelligence from residents indicating that a group of suspected cultists had assembled in a residential building where they were reportedly chanting slogans and engaging in activities linked to secret cult operations.

Police authorities said the operatives swiftly mobilised to the scene, cordoned off the area and apprehended the suspects without incident.

Those arrested were identified as Adesuye Dare, Ayeerun Joshua, Ojo Omole, Adu Dele and Akeju Idowu.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of the Eiye Confraternity, a group associated with violent crimes and threats to public peace.

He said the suspects are currently in custody and have provided useful information aiding ongoing investigations, adding that efforts are being intensified to uncover other members of the network and prevent any planned criminal activities.

The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, commended the operatives for their prompt response and praised members of the public for providing timely information that led to the successful operation.

Lawal reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance against cultism and other forms of criminality, assuring residents that intelligence-driven operations would be sustained to safeguard lives and property across the state.

He also urged young people to avoid involvement in cult-related activities, warning that the consequences are severe, while calling on parents and guardians to closely monitor their wards.

The police said the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, even as residents were encouraged to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies with credible information.
