The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 21-year-old suspect, Alabi Anthony, in connection with the death of a woman identified as Olaseni Veronica in Iboropa, Akoko area of the state.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state police command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Command said detectives acted on credible intelligence to launch an investigation into the incident, which led to the tracking of the deceased’s missing mobile phone and the subsequent arrest of the suspect.
According to the police, the suspect confessed during interrogation, admitting to engaging in unlawful sexual activity with the victim before causing her death.
The Command strongly condemned the incident, describing it as heinous and inhumane, and assured the public that justice would be pursued in accordance with the law.
It added that the case has been transferred to the state headquarters in Akure for further discreet investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, while reacting to the development, urged residents to promptly report suspicious movements and incidents, noting that timely information remains critical to effective policing and the resolution of criminal cases.
He also cautioned against drawing premature conclusions in cases involving sudden or unnatural deaths, stressing that proper investigation is essential to establishing the facts and ensuring justice is served.
