Ondo State Police Command has arrested six suspected fraudsters over an alleged fake miracle scam in Idanre, Idanre Local Government Area.
These successful arrests have been described by police authorities as another operational breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on fraud and related criminal activities across the state.
Nigerian Monitor gathered that the arrests followed a well-coordinated, intelligence-driven operation carried out on February 16, 2026, by operatives of the Command’s Tactical Teams in collaboration with Community Safety Officers (CSOs), acting on credible information about the activities of a suspected fraud syndicate operating within Idanre and its environs.
Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly posed as pastors and religious leaders, staging fake miracles and spiritual interventions to gain the trust and confidence of unsuspecting members of the public.
They were said to have exploited the faith and emotional vulnerabilities of their victims by promising divine solutions to financial, health and personal challenges, before allegedly defrauding them through various forms of obtaining by false pretence.
The suspects simply identified by their first names for security reasons are; Fadahunsi, Kolade, Tijani, Iyanuoluwa, Arijesulola and Ademola.
It was revealed that during interrogation, investigators gathered that the group reportedly operated in a coordinated manner, assigning specific roles to members to create what police described as a convincing façade of legitimacy.
The Command said further investigations are ongoing to determine the total number of victims, assess the financial magnitude of the alleged fraud and track other possible collaborators who may still be at large.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Command cautioned residents to exercise due diligence and avoid falling prey to individuals who use religion or promises of miracles as cover for criminal activity.
Members of the public were advised to verify claims, be wary of suspicious financial demands and promptly report dubious gatherings or activities to the nearest police station.
The PPRO stated that the suspects are to remain in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
