The General Overseer of God’s Favorite Ministry, Prophet Olarewaju Fadahunsi, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, alleging that officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State extorted N2 million from him and other clerics following their arrest in February.

In the petition written by his solicitor, Ibrahim Sulaiman, Fadahunsi accused the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, and personnel attached to his office of extortion, abuse of office and gross misconduct.

The petitioners alleged that the money was collected through a woman operating a Point of Sale (POS) machine, after the clerics were detained for five days over allegations of planning to stage “fake miracles” during a crusade in Idanre.

According to the petition, six pastors were arrested on February 11, 2026, at Saint Paul Anglican Church, Odode-Idanre, by a team of officers led by Inspector Oluwagbemileke Sunday Aluko, said to be attached to the Anti-Cultism Section of the Ondo State Command.

The clerics claimed they were arrested without a warrant and denied access to family members for the first four days of their detention at the state police headquarters in Akure.

They further alleged that during an interview on the fourth day, the Commissioner of Police informed them that they were engaging in fake miracles but failed to present any petition or evidence against them.

Part of the petition read: “We humbly request the office of the Inspector General of Police to urgently intervene in the incompetence, favouritism, miscarriage of justice, unprofessional activities and disobedience to directives from the office of the IGP against CP Adebowale Lawal, CSP Emmanuel Oluyemi Fabiyi, Inspector Oluwagbemileke Sunday Aluko, Mr Femi David Olatunji (IPO) and seven others.”

The petitioners alleged that they were initially asked to pay N6 million to secure their release but, after negotiations, paid N2 million through a MoniePoint account allegedly linked to a business name, Mama Shade Ventures.

They also claimed that an additional N300,000 was paid separately as “fuel allowance”.

The pastors further alleged that they were threatened with being paraded as fraudsters on national television if they refused to cooperate, and that their vehicles were impounded even after their release.

They claimed they were later re-arrested and compelled to sign undertakings not to pursue further complaints.

However, the Ondo State Police Command denied the allegations.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the arrest of the six “suspected fraudsters” over alleged miracle scam in Idanre was carried out in strict compliance with due process and established investigative procedures.

The command stated that the suspects voluntarily made written and video-recorded confessional statements in accordance with extant legal provisions, adding that the statements would form part of the prosecution’s evidence.

While noting the extortion allegations, the command said it had ordered a “thorough, impartial and transparent investigation” to ascertain the true facts of the matter, urging the aggrieved parties to provide supporting evidence.

The Commissioner of Police, the statement added, categorically denied directing anyone to collect money on his behalf, stressing that such conduct runs contrary to the ethical standards of the Force and its zero-tolerance stance on corruption.

The command assured members of the public that any officer found culpable after investigation would be dealt with in accordance with the law, reiterating its commitment to accountability, professionalism and community-centred policing in Ondo State.
