Mr Jamiu Olawale and his wife, who were abducted from their residence in Ilu Abo, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, have regained their freedom after spending four days in captivity.
The couple was reportedly kidnapped last Friday shortly after returning home from work.
They were released on Tuesday night and have since reunited with their family.
A relative, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that a ransom of ₦5 million was paid to secure their release.
“Jamiu and his wife were freed by their captors on Tuesday night, and they have since reunited with their family,” the source said.
According to the source, the kidnappers initially demanded ₦40 million, but later reduced the amount to ₦12 million during negotiations before eventually agreeing to ₦5 million.
The incident adds to growing concerns over security in parts of Ondo State, particularly in Akure North Local Government Area, where cases of abduction have been reported in recent times.
Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the development as of press time.
