The Federal Government has donated N500 million to the Nigerian Legion, with President Bola Tinubu praising the Armed Forces for their unwavering efforts in combating the country’s security challenges.

The donation was announced by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration Emblem and Appeal Fund Launch in Abuja, on Tuesday.

President Tinubu emphasised that without the Armed Forces’ efforts to stabilise the country, the administration’s reform policies and economic theories would have little impact.

“No matter what economic theory we propagate or postulate, if there is no security, we cannot promote peace and development,” he said.

The President expressed gratitude to the Armed Forces, acknowledging their role as the country’s first line of defense.

He also commended the sacrifices of fallen heroes, assuring that their memories will not be in vain.

Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru, thanked President Tinubu for his continued support of the Armed Forces’ welfare.

Retired Major General Abdulmalik Jibril, National Chairman of the Nigeria Legion, praised the President for the unprecedented donation, stating that it will ensure the families of fallen heroes are not left destitute.

The event was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and other prominent government officials.

This donation underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Legion and the Armed Forces, recognising their vital role in maintaining national security and stability.
