The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration, signalling the end of the Ramadan fast.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Magdalene Ajani, the minister congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan.
Tunji-Ojo urged adherents to sustain the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice imbibed during the fasting period.
He also called on Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for national peace, unity, and sustained prosperity, while encouraging citizens to celebrate in moderation and extend goodwill to the less privileged in society.
The minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to fostering unity, religious harmony, and peaceful coexistence across the country.
