FG declares two-day holiday for Easter, urges Nigerians to embrace unity

The Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebration.

The announcement was made on behalf of the government by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who extended congratulations to Christians across Nigeria and in the diaspora on the occasion.

In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, the minister called on Nigerians to reflect on the spiritual significance of Easter by embracing the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance and love, as exemplified in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

He also urged citizens to remain committed to the ideals of tolerance and communal harmony, which he said are essential to sustaining national unity.

Dr Tunji-Ojo reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to policies and decisions aimed at fostering national rebirth, economic growth and shared prosperity for all Nigerians.

He wished Christians a peaceful and joyous Easter celebration.
