Confusion as Israel claims killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei

Conflicting reports have emerged over the fate of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, after senior Israeli officials reportedly told Reuters that he had been killed in a recent strike, a claim swiftly contradicted by Iranian state-linked media.

According to Reuters, unnamed senior Israeli officials disclosed that Khamenei was eliminated in what they described as a targeted operation, adding that his remains had been recovered.

The development, if confirmed, would mark an unprecedented escalation in hostilities between Israel and Iran, whose long-running shadow conflict has increasingly spilled into open confrontation.

However, Iranian news agencies Tasnim and Mehr dismissed the reports, insisting that the Supreme Leader remained alive and actively directing national affairs.

Both outlets described him as “steadfast and firm in commanding the field”, a phrase suggesting continued leadership amid heightened tensions.

Adding another layer of uncertainty, a correspondent for Fox News reported on Saturday that the United States believes Khamenei and between five and 10 other senior Iranian leaders may have been killed in an initial Israeli strike.

The claim, attributed to a US official, has not been independently verified by Washington, and no formal statement has been issued by American authorities.

The sharply divergent accounts underscore the volatility of the situation and the difficulty of confirming developments amid military operations and information warfare.

Analysts warn that confirmation of Khamenei’s death would have profound implications for regional stability, potentially triggering retaliatory measures by Tehran and reshaping the political and military landscape of the Middle East.

As of press time, there has been no direct public appearance or official broadcast by Khamenei to settle the claims, leaving the international community awaiting authoritative clarification from Tehran.
