The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a scathing attack on the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing the opposition party of being responsible for its internal crisis and dismissing its claims of external interference as baseless.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Thursday, the APC described the ADC as a platform riddled with confusion and desperation, alleging that its current challenges stem from self-inflicted leadership disputes and disregard for due process.

The statement, signed by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, criticised what it termed the ADC’s penchant for peddling conspiracy theories about attempts by the ruling party to undermine it.

According to the APC, the ADC’s leadership crisis worsened following the emergence of a faction allegedly led by David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, whom it accused of taking control of the party in violation of its constitutional provisions on leadership succession.

The ruling party argued that the ensuing turmoil within the ADC was a direct consequence of actions taken by its own members, rather than any external influence.

It also backed the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw recognition from the factional leadership, describing the move as lawful and consistent with democratic norms.

“The ADC’s unwillingness to take responsibility for its failure to follow due process and manage its internal affairs underscores its unfitness as a credible political platform,” the statement said.

The APC further accused the opposition party of lacking clear policy direction, alleging that its primary focus has been on attacking the ruling party rather than offering viable alternatives to Nigerians.

Reaffirming its position, the APC stated that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to delivering on its “Renewed Hope Agenda” and strengthening democratic institutions for national unity and development.
