Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has pledged to abide by the recent Supreme Court judgments affecting aspects of the state’s ongoing political disputes, despite expressing his disagreement with the rulings.
In a state broadcast addressing the judicial decisions, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the rule of law and constitutional governance.
Acknowledging the legal obligations imposed by the Supreme Court, Fubara assured the public that his government would study the details of the judgments once the certified true copies are available.
He revealed that his legal team expects to receive the official documents by Friday, March 7, 2025, after which the government will assess their implications and proceed with implementation.
A key directive issued by the governor in response to the court’s ruling concerns the local government administration.
With the Supreme Court outlawing caretaker arrangements in local councils, Fubara has instructed the Heads of Personnel Management (HPMs) to immediately assume control of the 23 local government councils across the state.
He further directed the outgoing local government chairmen to formally hand over authority to the HPMs by Monday, March 3, 2025.
Despite the legal and political turbulence, the governor urged the people of Rivers State to remain calm and continue their daily activities without disruption.
He reassured residents that his administration remains committed to ensuring stability and fulfilling its responsibilities to the citizens.
