The Organised Labour has confirmed that the nationwide strike scheduled for Monday, June 3, 2024, will proceed as planned, following a four-hour meeting with the National Assembly leadership on Sunday evening in Abuja.

The meeting, aimed at persuading the workers to abandon their planned industrial action, ended in a deadlock.

The labour unions are demanding a new national minimum wage and a reversal of the recent hike in electricity tariffs.

The leadership of the Organised Labour, comprising the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), stated that they do not have the power to call off the strike, and will take the National Assembly’s plea to their various organs.

The strike is expected to have severe repercussions on the populace and economy of Nigeria.
