Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, charging him to sustain good governance and remain responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people.
Obasanjo gave the charge on Sunday night when he paid a surprise congratulatory visit to Adeleke at his country home in Ede, Osun State, following the governor’s victory in the August 15 governorship election.
The former President, who was accompanied by Otunba Fasawe, was received by Adeleke in a celebratory atmosphere, with the governor reportedly joining in songs of praise and dancing in appreciation of God for his electoral victory.
During the visit, Obasanjo prayed for continued success for Adeleke as he prepares to begin another term in office, while urging him to remain focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.
“Continue to deliver good governance. Continue to meet the needs of your people,” Obasanjo charged the governor.
Adeleke emerged victorious in the keenly contested election, defeating his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
The visit, which came shortly after the declaration of Adeleke as winner of the election, was described by the governor as a surprise and a significant gesture of goodwill.
Adeleke expressed appreciation to Obasanjo for the visit, while thanking God, the people of Osun State and supporters of democracy for making his victory possible.
“Baba, I thank you for this surprise visit. I promise never to disappoint God, Osun people and all lovers of democracy who made our victory possible,” Adeleke told the former President.
The governor further pledged that his administration would remain committed to serving the people and advancing their interests and welfare during his second term.
He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue serving the state, promising to remain a loyal servant of Osun and work towards improving the lives of its citizens.
The Deputy Governor of Osun State, Prince Kola Adewusi, was also present as Adeleke received the former President.
Obasanjo’s visit adds to the growing stream of congratulatory messages and goodwill engagements following Adeleke’s re-election, as the governor begins preparations for another term in office.
