Amaechi rejects ADC presidential primary results

Former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the presidential primaries conducted by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alleging widespread irregularities and voter disenfranchisement.

Amaechi, in a statement posted on his X handle, described the outcome of the exercise as “concocted results.”

The former Rivers State governor stated that he had earlier made it clear that he would only accept the outcome of the primaries if the process was conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner.

“I will not accept results from a process that does not reflect the values that the ADC had pledged to uphold,” he said.

Amaechi alleged that a large percentage of party members across the country were denied the opportunity to participate in the voting process.

“There’s no way that about eighty percent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results,” he stated.

The former minister accused the party leadership of engaging in the same practices it had previously criticised in the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to him, the ADC could not condemn vote buying, electoral manipulation and alleged rigging by other political actors while allegedly engaging in similar conduct during its own internal process.

Amaechi maintained that the conduct of the primaries was contrary to the ideals and principles upon which the party was founded.

He described the development as unacceptable and insisted that internal democracy must be respected if political parties are to maintain credibility and public trust.
