Insecurity: Police, security agencies arrest 99 suspects in Ondo statewide raid

The Ondo State Police Command has announced the arrest of 99 suspects during a coordinated statewide raid carried out by security agencies as part of ongoing efforts to combat crime across the state.

The operation, conducted on February 8, 2026, involved a joint security team comprising the Ondo State Police Command, the 32 Brigade Artillery of the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Directorate of State Services (DSS), and the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the intelligence-led operation targeted identified criminal hideouts, black spots and flashpoints across several communities known for criminal activities.

The operation led to the arrest of 99 suspects allegedly linked to offences including armed robbery, burglary, theft, cultism and other related crimes.

Jimoh said several items suspected to have been used for criminal activities, as well as suspected stolen properties and other incriminating exhibits, were recovered during the operation.

He added that the suspects are currently undergoing screening and profiling, while those found culpable will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, commended the professionalism and collaboration among the participating security agencies, noting that joint efforts remain essential in tackling criminal activities in the state.

Lawal reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and sustained joint operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and maintaining law and order.

He also warned criminal elements to desist from engaging in unlawful activities, stressing that the state would not serve as a safe haven for criminals.

The police commissioner urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information, describing community cooperation as vital to sustaining peace and security in the state.

The command assured the public that security agencies would continue to intensify efforts to track down and bring perpetrators of crime to justice.
