More than 50 pupils, students, teachers and workers of St. Mary’s Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri Community, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, have been abducted by terrorists.

The armed bandits reportedly stormed the Catholic-run school in the early hours of Friday, shooting sporadically as they whisked away the victims.

Confirming the incident in a statement, the Diocesan Secretary of the Catholic Diocese of Kontagora, Father Jatau Luka Joseph, described the attack as “a deeply distressing development” for the Church and the local community.

The latest abduction comes barely days after terrorists kidnapped schoolgirls in Kebbi State and killed several worshippers in Kwara State, further heightening concerns over worsening insecurity across the northern region of Nigeria.

Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, as residents await coordinated rescue efforts.
