Following the intervention of the Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Ondo State branch of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has announced the suspension of its indefinite strike, which began on Friday, June 13, 2025.
The strike, embarked upon by judiciary workers across the state, had paralysed court activities for nearly two weeks before the state government stepped in to address the union’s demands.
In a press statement released by the State Secretary of JUSUN, Comrade Kehinde Alade, the union said its decision to suspend the industrial action was reached after due consultations with its national headquarters and deliberations at the state administrative council meeting.
He noted that the state government had shown a genuine commitment to complying with legal provisions concerning the release of funds to the judiciary, one of the union’s core demands.
According to Alade, the government also pledged to set up a committee that would work within a reasonable timeframe to facilitate the implementation of agreed measures starting from July 2025.
As part of the resolutions, the judiciary in Ondo State is now to manage its finances directly, through a monthly release of funds commonly referred to as “envelope funding”, which is expected to commence next month.
The statement further directed all judiciary staff under the Ondo State branch to resume duties immediately, while dialogue with the government would continue to ensure the smooth commencement and sustainability of the new financial arrangement.
The union expressed hope that the July deadline would be met and that this development would lead to improved autonomy and efficiency in the administration of justice in the state.
