The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for a united national front to foster growth and development, stressing that political affiliations should not stand in the way of Nigeria’s progress.

Speaking during her two-day working visit to Enugu State, Senator Tinubu emphasised that the country’s diversity should be seen as a strength, not a barrier.

“Nigeria is a beautiful country and no one should hinder anyone from visiting any part of the country to experience this. We pray our security will improve and Nigeria should get to that place of safety,” she said.

The First Lady made the remarks while meeting with traditional rulers, whom she described as “the eyes and ears of government at the grassroots.”

She urged them to support her health advocacy campaigns against cervical cancer, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

“As leaders, we are responsible to take care of all Nigeria, political affiliation notwithstanding,” she noted.

Senator Tinubu also highlighted forthcoming projects under the Renewed Hope Initiative, including the Flow with Confidence campaign, which aims to ensure that no adolescent girl misses school due to menstruation, and the establishment of Environment Clubs in secondary and tertiary schools to promote environmental responsibility.

Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Council, His Royal Highness Samuel Asadu, lauded the First Lady’s efforts and affirmed the commitment of traditional leaders in the state to gender equity.

“Unsafe cultural practices that hinder the growth of women have been eradicated in the state,” he said.

Expressing strong political support for the Tinubu administration, he added, “For us here in Enugu, we the traditional rulers say, no vacancy in Aso Rock.”

The visit also marked the conclusion of a nationwide distribution of professional kits to midwives.

At a presentation ceremony in Enugu, Senator Tinubu handed out scrubs and crocs to midwives from the South East, completing the initiative’s rollout across all six geopolitical zones.

“Since the initial launch in January 2025, we have distributed 50,000 scrubs and 50,000 pairs of crocs to five geopolitical zones; North Central, North East, North West, South South and the South West zones. Today we are in Enugu for the South East, the last geopolitical zone to receive their allocated share,” she stated.

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu praised Senator Tinubu for her leadership in health advocacy, likening her to Florence Nightingale for her compassion and impact.

“Her responsiveness to pressing health issues is inspiring,” he said, also commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his dedication and service.

Addressing the midwives, he added, “Your kits matter because you matter, and your work matters.”

The occasion also featured the presentation of a ₦50 million grant to 1,000 women petty traders in Enugu State under the Renewed Hope Initiative, underscoring the administration’s commitment to grassroots empowerment and economic inclusion.

The First Lady’s visit was a blend of advocacy, empowerment, and calls for national unity, capturing the essence of her mission to build a healthier and more inclusive Nigeria.
