Ondo State Governor, Mr Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to advancing healthcare delivery, particularly through the successful establishment of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Teaching Hospital.
This assurance was given on Sunday during a visit by the House of Representatives Committee on Federal Health Institutions to the Government House in Alagbaka, Akure.
Welcoming the delegation led by Committee Chairman, Hon. Patrick Umoh, Governor Aiyedatiwa revealed that the state government had already taken concrete steps to facilitate the hospital’s take-off.
These include the ceding of one of the state’s specialist hospitals to serve as a temporary site and the allocation of land for the development of a permanent location for the federal teaching hospital.
The governor pledged his administration’s full support for the realisation of the project, stressing that the hospital would not only enhance medical education and training but also significantly improve healthcare access for residents of Ondo State.
He lauded the committee’s visit, noting that such oversight functions are crucial for assessing existing challenges and identifying areas requiring intervention within the federal health infrastructure.
Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that insights gathered from the visit would inform better policy-making at both federal and state levels, ultimately benefiting healthcare workers and the general populace.
In his remarks, Hon. Patrick Umoh commended the governor for his proactive support and assured him that the committee’s oversight tour was in line with its national legislative mandate to evaluate and strengthen federal health institutions.
He appealed for continued collaboration, pointing out that the success of the FUTA Teaching Hospital is integral to achieving the Federal Government’s renewed hope agenda for the health sector.
Umoh further stressed that sustainable improvements in Nigeria’s healthcare system require strong partnerships with sub-national governments.
He called on Governor Aiyedatiwa to remain steadfast in his support, stating that his administration’s contribution would be pivotal to the timely realisation of the teaching hospital and the broader objective of improving healthcare delivery nationwide.
