Ondo leaders applaud NUJ’s harmony as Adegbite clinches second term

The re-election of Prince Leke Adegbite as Chairman of the Ondo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has drawn a wave of commendations from top government officials, who praised his unwavering commitment to journalism and the exemplary conduct of the union’s transition process.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State led the chorus of goodwill, hailing Adegbite’s return to office as a testament to his leadership qualities and the union’s internal cohesion.

Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, at the inauguration ceremony held in Akure on Wednesday, the Governor lauded the peaceful election that brought about the continuation of Adegbite’s tenure, describing it as a reflection of the union’s maturity, professionalism, and democratic ethos.

The Governor acknowledged the critical role of the media in promoting good governance, expressing gratitude for the NUJ’s support and cooperation with his administration.

He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the government’s relationship with the media, emphasising that responsible journalism is a cornerstone of democracy.

In a special recognition, Governor Aiyedatiwa also congratulated Miss Precious Oluwole of TRACE News Magazine, a member of his press crew, on her emergence as the union’s Assistant General Secretary.

Adding his voice to the chorus of praise, the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, described Adegbite as a “special breed” of journalist, renowned for his dedication and selfless service.

In a personally signed statement, Oladiji celebrated the Chairman’s re-election as richly deserved, expressing confidence that his leadership will continue to benefit the union and the broader journalistic community.

Also in attendance at the ceremony was the National President of the NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, represented by the Vice President for the South West Zone, Mrs. Aderonke Samo, who commended the Ondo Council for its steadfast commitment to the profession.

He appreciated the executives for their service and applauded the transparent and peaceful electoral process.

In his acceptance speech, Prince Adegbite expressed deep gratitude to his colleagues and supporters, vowing to protect the interests of journalists across the state and build upon the accomplishments of his previous tenure.

He also acknowledged the presence of Ondo State NLC Chairman, Comrade Ademola Olapade, and other chairmen of NUJ from neighbouring states who graced the occasion, underlining the spirit of solidarity within the journalistic fold.

The new executives sworn in during the inauguration include Prince Leke Adegbite as Chairman, Mr. Meshach Olaoluwa as General Secretary, Mrs. Maria Famakinwa as Treasurer, and Miss Precious Oluwole as Assistant Secretary.
