The newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Wilfred Olatokunbo Afolabi, paid his first official visit to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Monday, marking the beginning of his tenure.
The meeting, held at the Presidential Lodge of the Government House in Akure, provided an opportunity to strengthen collaboration between the state government and the police in tackling security challenges.
During the visit, the outgoing Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipupo, formally introduced his successor to the Governor.
The transition of leadership within the Ondo State Police Command comes at a critical time, as the state grapples with recent security concerns in Owo Local Government Area.
Governor Aiyedatiwa received a detailed briefing on the violent cult clashes that recently rocked Owo, leading to the loss of lives and prompting the imposition of a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the area.
The new Commissioner of Police assured the Governor of his commitment to restoring peace and stability across the state, emphasising a zero-tolerance approach to crime.
The Governor expressed confidence in CP Afolabi’s ability to address the state’s security challenges, citing his extensive experience and track record.
He also commended the outgoing Commissioner, Oladipupo, for his service and contributions to the state’s security framework.
