The Governor of Ondo State, Mr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to advancing justice and improving the welfare of judicial officers in the state.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony for the construction of the new High Court Complex, known as the Judiciary Village, along Oba Osupa Road in Akure on Friday, the Governor described the initiative as a historic milestone.

Governor Aiyedatiwa announced that the complex would be named the Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu Judiciary Complex, in honour of the late former Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN.

The vision for the project was conceived under Akeredolu’s leadership, and the current administration is fulfilling that aspiration.

“This is a milestone celebration as we flag off the construction of a New High Court Complex in our dear state. Since the creation of Ondo State in 1976, no attempt has been made to provide a modern edifice for the administration of justice. Today, we are not only making history but also fulfilling a long-standing dream of the judiciary,” the Governor stated.

He emphasised that the project is being undertaken despite financial constraints, driven by a commitment to improving the working environment and providing modern facilities for judicial officers, workers, and the general public seeking justice.

He expressed hope that the new complex would enhance the welfare of judicial officers and speed up the dispensation of justice in the state.

The Judiciary Village, spanning 13 hectares, will feature a ceremonial court, modular courts, a registry, a library, an exhibition hall, a utility building, and modern parking facilities.

Governor Aiyedatiwa revealed that the project has been awarded to Messrs Westfield Global Construction Company, with a completion timeline of 48 weeks.

The Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Olusegun Odusola, described the initiative as a landmark achievement, commending the Governor for his commitment to elevating the state’s judiciary to global standards.

Justice Odusola noted that the new complex would ensure the judiciary operates in an environment conducive to efficiency and innovation.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Akinwumi Sowore Esq., provided a technical overview of the project, highlighting its 14 courtrooms, library, and ample parking spaces, which aim to improve judicial efficiency.

In a goodwill message, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr Kayode Ajulo, SAN, praised Governor Aiyedatiwa’s dedication to justice and governance.

He noted that the Governor’s investment in judicial infrastructure reflects his commitment to strengthening the rule of law and democracy in Ondo State.
