In a major shake-up, President Bola Tinubu has announced pivotal appointments across key agencies, including the National Universities Commission (NUC), the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), and the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD).
Additionally, the President has renewed the tenure of Fatima Umaru Shinkafi as the Executive Secretary of the Solid Minerals Development Fund (SMDF) and the Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Initiative (PAGMI).
Fatima Shinkafi, originally appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari, has been lauded for her transformative contributions to the solid minerals sector.
In a press release signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Fatima’s reappointment reflects confidence in her leadership as the sector continues to evolve under her stewardship.
At the NUC, Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu has been named Executive Secretary.
A distinguished expert in veterinary reproduction, Ribadu has previously served as Vice-Chancellor at the Federal University of Technology, Yola, and Sule Lamido University in Jigawa State.
For the NERDC, Professor Salisu Shehu takes the helm as its new Executive Secretary.
Renowned for his work in educational and human psychology, Shehu has played a vital role in founding the School of Continuing Education at Bayero University, Kano, and served as Vice-Chancellor of Al-Istiqamah University, Kano.
In a significant move for NEPAD, Jabiru Salisu Abdullahi Tsauri has been appointed as the National Coordinator.
With a Master’s degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University, Tsauri brings a wealth of experience in legislative and global affairs, as well as democratic governance.
Notably, an earlier announcement of Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani as the Executive Secretary of the SMDF/PAGMI has been rescinded, with the clarification that no vacancy exists in the agency.
President Tinubu expressed confidence in the appointees, highlighting their track records and expertise as critical to driving progress and delivering on the expectations of Nigerians in their respective roles.
The appointments underscore the administration’s commitment to fostering leadership excellence in education, governance, and national development.
